Bazaruto Island is a beautiful sandy island located south east of the mouth of the save river, Mozambique. It is the largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago and in the Bazaruto National Park. The island is best known and chosen by tourists because of the sandy beaches, coral reefs, diving, snorkeling, surfing and fishing.
The bazaruto archipelago area is now a protected conservation and national park area. The best way to get to the island is to fly either from Maputo, Inhambane or Johannesburg as it is considered cheaper than the land transfers.
Once there sand dunes are never far away and the saline lakes host a wide variety of seabird species not to mention the coral reefs which are home to thousands of fish, coral and marine mammals. The Vilankulo Ruins are another must see while there.
Scuba diving, traditional dhow safaris, diving, game fishing and horseback riding safaris are a few of the activities to enjoy while exploring and relaxing on this true paradise island.
