Germany: A Mix Of Old And New
Germany is a country located in Central Europe and is known for its rich culture of music, food, festivals, and its many majestic castles and palaces. Christmas markets, Oktoberfest and the Alps are also famous reasons to visit the country.
Germany has some major cities all with their unique heritage and traditions. The capital city Berlin has a colourful and turbulent history. The city was divided during the Cold War and the Berlin wall was erected to keep them apart. The falling of the wall in 1989 unified the city and traces of the wall can still be seen today as a monument to the past.
Berlin is a unique mix of historical landmarks and modern features, and the diversity of the city and its many things to do is what makes it special.
Oktoberfest: A Bavarian Tradition
Munich in Bavaria is home to the largest beer festival in the world Oktoberfest. Thousands descend on the city during September and October to drink, dance and celebrate. Dressed in traditional dirndl folk costumes, revellers will drink a staggering 2 million gallons of beer during the two-week festival.
Bavaria in the south of Germany is home to rich outdoor landscapes and beautiful views that attract outdoor lovers and winter sports enthusiasts by the masses. Explore majestic lakes, wander around traditional Bavarian villages and head to the Alps for skiing and snow sports.
Fairytale Castles & Tasty Treats
The country is home to some of the most beautiful castles in the world. Neuschwanstein Castle is one such castle that inspired another world-famous castle.
Walt Disney visited in the 1950s and used the castle as inspiration for the Disney logo as well as Sleeping Beauty’s castle. The fairytale beauty is impressive and is a must-visit when exploring Bavaria.
One of Germany’s most famous things is the sausage! There are an estimated 1,500 different types of sausage in Germany with famous ones such as Bratwurst and Currywurst popular worldwide.
