Renewed Commitment as a Real Living Wage Employer

Holiday Hamster is an Accredited Living Wage Employer

One year on from being accredited as a Living Wage Employer, Holiday Hamster has today renewed its commitment to ensuring everyone working at Holiday Hamster now receives a minimum hourly wage of £10.90, significantly higher than the government minimum for over 23s, which currently stands at £10.42 per hour.

Continued Commitment to Fair Pay

Holiday Hamster is based in Ripponden, West Yorkshire, which is part of the UK region with the highest proportion of non-Living Wage jobs in the country (15.8%), with over 368,000 jobs paying less than the real Living Wage. Despite this, Loadhog has committed to pay the real Living Wage and deliver a fair day’s pay for a hard day’s work.

Being employee owned positively influences the way our people act within our business. Our people are our greatest asset, and we take care of them as the future of our business depends on them.

The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers who wish to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on, not just the government minimum. Since 2011 the Living Wage movement has delivered a pay rise to over 450,000 people and put over £2 billion extra into the pockets of low-paid workers.

Our Team are Our Greatest Asset

Holiday Hamster is a multi-award winning, independent travel agent, selling holidays and travel services to customers throughout the UK and beyond.

“We are proud to continue this working relationship with The Living Wage Foundation” said Hayley Walker, Director of Holiday Hamster. “…Our team are our greatest asset, and we try to look after them as best we can because the future of our business depends on them. I also feel that we have a moral obligation to anyone employed by Holiday Hamster and to the wider community. Being an accredited Living Wage Employer, shows our commitment to this and to our employees, ensuring they are paid fairly now and for years to come.

Holiday Hamster Goes Further

Katherine Chapman, Director of The Living Wage Foundation said: “We’re delighted that Holiday Hamster has renewed its commitment to a movement of over 12,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on.”
